OSM introduces new Training Courses

OSM Training in Manila, has launched 3 new courses, the Danish certification for ship’s cooks, Danish Medical Care and the ROV (Remotely Operated Vehicle) pilot technician course. The programme was held at their very own world-class training facility of OSM Philippines.

The programme commenced with a warm welcome from Ms. Mailyn Borillo, President of OSM Philippines. After which, Engr. Julius Dizon, Senior ROV Pilot, talked about the newest course offering of OSM, the ROV pilot technician course. Being able to go to depths beyond the capacity of divers, the ROV is vital in subsea operations in the offshore industry therefore an ROV Pilot Technician is a highly sought after specialised role normally occupied by Europeans. Today, OSM offers the only ROV Pilot Technician Training Programme in the Philippines.

Testament to the quality of the other two courses is the approval from the Danish Maritime Authority. For the Danish Ship’s cook certification programme, Chef Mark Anthony Galang made a brief introduction of the course which allows participants to obtain a Danish Certificate of endorsement for ships cook with a reduced sea service time.

Finally, the Danish Medical Care course was presented by the company nurse and course instructor, Karla Monica Ceñido. The course is being offered to train medical caretakers on board Danish flagged ships. It is the first time that the DMA approved a medical care course facilitated by a Filipino nurse. In fact, this is the only medical care course approved by DMA is Southeast Asia.

The said activity was well attended by different manning agencies and organizations in the maritime industry like Maersk line, TORM shipping, Ultraship, Phoenix Maritime Co., Nordic Tanker and the Nordic Business Council.

The guests were given a tour of the training facilities and treated to a dinner prepared by the catering trainees. The activity concluded with closing remarks from Mr. Adrien Luntao, GM for Global Training where he assured the attending guests that their seafarers will have an excellent learning experience in OSM not only because of the world class training facilities but more importantly due to the quality of the facilitators. After all, “It’s all about people” in OSM.

Indeed, the launching was a success and was well received by the guests!!!
